Orthodontic Retainers
Why Retainers matter
Completing your orthodontic treatment is a significant milestone, but maintaining your beautifully straightened teeth requires ongoing care. Teeth naturally have a tendency to shift over time, which is why wearing a retainer is essential to preserve your results and prevent relapse. Removable retainers are crafted from high-quality plastic and are designed to keep your teeth in their newly aligned position, protecting the progress you’ve worked hard to achieve. At Smile Bristol, we use digital scanners to create precise, custom-fit retainers for optimal retention. We offer two types of retainers to ensure long-term stability: Standard Retainers and Risio Retainers.
Choosing the Right Retainer for You
-
Standard Retainers are a great choice for general retention and offer good durability with a clear, discreet look. The price is £120 per retainer and is available in 1mm or 1.5mm
-
Risio Retainers are designed with cutting-edge materials that resist wear and staining better, ensuring a longer lifespan and improved aesthetics. The price is £140 per retainer and is also available in 1mm or 1.5mm.
Retainers are prescribed to patients who have gone through braces or aligner treatment to straighten their teeth. Removable retainers are made of a clear, comfortable plastic, and they’re really important for keeping your teeth in their new, straight position. Retainers help ensure that beautiful smile stays just the way you want it.
Yes. Without retainers, your teeth will start moving back to their previous position, or an entirely new one. Retainers help ensure that the hard work and money that has been invested in straightening your teeth won’t go to waste.
A tighter fit to improve retention and comfort.
RISIO retainer’s custom-made fit is created to be snug to the patients teeth and the high quality of materials we use ensure our RISIO retainers do not stretch or become loose over time.
Stronger & more durable to improve long-term retention
Breakages are common with some retainer brands and even fixed retainers, so RISIO is engineered to provide a durable solution that requires less maintenance. RISIO is a long term solution with lasting results ensuring your patient requires no further treatment.
A more stain repellent retainer to improve clarity
The virtual-invisibility of RISIO retainers and the materials used reduce stains and imperfections. RISIO’s clear plastic is created to maintain its clarity and is more discreet than other solutions.
Make sure you’re cleaning your retainer after every use to remove bacteria and calcium deposits. This can be done using a soft bristled toothbrush and water. You should also regularly leave your retainer in a special dental soak specially designed for dentures and retainers.
If you are properly cleaning your retainer and it has an odour, it might need to be professionally cleaned by your dentist.
It’s also very important that you keep on top of any repairs your retainer needs. If you leave it, not only will your retainer be less effective but you could cause more serious and lasting damage to your teeth.
Yes. Most dentists will recommend that you wear your retainers every night.
No. Retainers are strictly a post-orthodontic device for teeth that have already been treated. They’re not designed to actively move teeth, and so can’t be used as a replacement for braces or aligner trays.
A clear plastic aligner like RISIO could be used to help with other issues, such as bruxism (teeth grinding).
Like most dental treatments, removable retainers might feel a little strange and tight at first. This is because they’re holding your teeth in place. However, once you’re used to them, your retainers will be extremely comfortable, easy to wear and barely noticeable.
In order to maintain results achieved by teeth straightening, you will have to keep up maintenance for the rest of your life. However, as time goes by, you’ll be required to wear it less; sometimes just a few times a week.
Yes. Your retainers needs to be cleaned separately from your teeth.
